LOGLINE

1965, a Beatles mad, teenage Mahout from Ceylon is forced to sell and deliver his life-long elephant companion to a New Zealand zoo, to keep a roof over his mother’s head; a journey across the ocean and a four hundred mile trek on foot through the land of the long white cloud.

SYNOPSIS

Ayun followed in the footsteps of his Father, Grandfather, and generations of men in his family by becoming a Mahout. From infancy, he grew up bonding with Kandula, a “Tusker” - so-called for their glorious ivory - named after the famed pachyderm that helped unify Ceylon.

Their peaceful existence is shattered after a disaster forces Ayun to sell Kandulu to keep a roof over his widowed mother’s head. But Kandula is anxious, fearful, and refuses to obey the commands of the wildlife traders. Now Ayun must deliver his life-long friend to the distant island nation of New Zealand.
